When it comes to electricity, it is important to take the necessary precautions to avoid a dangerous outcome. Here are some safety tips to help you to know what to do when working around electrical objects.
Safety Tips
- If you see power lines that are down, do not try to move them. All downed lines should be considered dangerous. Stay away and call your local power company or dial 911.
- If your car comes in contact with a power line, stay inside of the car and warn others not to touch the car.
- Never fly kites, balloons, or any flying object near power lines.
- Never touch electrical cords that are broken or have wires showing through the protective coating.
- Never place electrical appliances on or near a tub or sink.
- If a plugged appliance falls in the water, do not try to reach in and get it. Turn off electricity at the circuit breaker or fusebox before unplugging.
- Unplug appliances before repairing.
- Instruct children not to play with or stick objects in an electrical outlet. Use plastic outlet caps on unused outlets.
